This process usually involves draining the water of the pool, preparing the surface by removing any loose plaster in hollow areas, installing waterline tiles, applying bonding layer, cleaning the surface with muriatic acid, replacing water jet caps and main drain caps, and then applying the actual finish. 

TYPE OF FINISHES:

• Diamond Brite: this is a mix of colored quartz stone and polymer modified Portland cement. We are confident to mention that this has been the most common type of pool finish according to pool industry standards during the last decade. This finish typically lasts between 10-15 years, before fading and showing spots. 
• Pebble Finish: this is a high tech aggregate for pool finish. They provide a more textured surface than Diamond Brite. 
• Glass Tiles: this type of finish belongs to higher end, as they are probably the most expensive finish for a pool. They might be either ceramic or glass tile, and they provide a luxurious and smooth finish to the entire pool surface. These tiles are stain resistant and highly durable as a pool surface option. The tiles require periodic cleaning and re-grouting during its lifespan.

For example, Depending on the current condition of your pool surface will determine how much work needs to be done to prepare the surface for the new pool plaster finish. If any areas of the plaster are hollow, they need to be chipped out or grind off before refinishing. Another factor to consider is the square footage of the pool, the bigger the pool, the more materials and labor need to be used and will reflect on the total project cost. 

The type of interior finish will determine the longevity of your pool surface and also costs involved with the job itself. The three most common pool finishes are plaster, aggregate or tile. Plaster being the less expensive finish, but we have to say that after a few years (usually 3-5 years), it starts showing stains on the white surface. Next, we have the aggregate finish, and this is the most common type of finish because of its longevity.
